Friends of Northside (FON) is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to ensuring that Northside College Prep continues to offer the world-class education and vibrant student experience that make it one of the top public schools in the nation. With modest student fees and limited district funding, many of the programs, resources, and opportunities that define the Northside experience exist only because of donor support. Contributions from individuals and corporations directly fund academic innovation, athletics, clubs, classroom technology, arts programs, college counseling, and community-building events. Every gift — whether from a family, alumnus, local business, or major sponsor — makes an immediate and measurable impact on nearly 1,100 high-achieving, diverse students and strengthens the broader Northside community.

According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best High Schools, Northside ranks #40 nationally, #2 in Illinois, and #2 among Chicago Public High Schools, earning a near-perfect score of 99.78. The report also cites 93% reading proficiency, 94% math proficiency, and a 97% graduation rate — clear evidence of our students’ dedication and our teachers’ excellence. Chicago Magazine likewise named Northside the #1 Public High School in Chicago (2024).
Yet public funding has limits. Nearly 40% of Northside students come from low-income households, and CPS dollars cover only teacher salaries. Everything else — textbooks, technology, arts, and extracurriculars — depends on parent and community support.

FON is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) (EIN: 364391169) that fills these gaps, funding classroom materials, technology, arts, athletics, and even three teacher salaries.
